Jasprit Bumrah created history! Dhoni breaks T20I record with one stroke with Rohit-Virat

The semi-finals of the men's cricket team took place today (October 1) in the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Japan. In the first match, Pakistan defeated Bangladesh and entered the gold medal match. The second match was played between India and Sri Lanka, in which Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah broke the records of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and MS Dhoni as soon as he entered the field.

After the toss of the second semi-final at Korogi Park in Nishin, Bumrah's name appeared in the final eleven and he became the player to play T20 International matches in the most number of countries for India. With this he left behind former captain Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar and Rohit Sharma. Bumrah has so far played T20 International cricket matches in 13 countries. After him, Virat, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar have played T20 matches for India in 12-12 countries.

Before playing T20 International match in Japan, Bumrah has played at least one T20 International match in India, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, UAE, USA, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

Bumrah's unbreakable record…

Virat, Rohit and Bhuvneshwar have played T20 International matches in all the countries where Bumrah has played, except Japan. Therefore, Rohit-Virat will not be able to break this record of Bumrah, because they have retired from T20 International cricket. Talking about Bhuvneshwar, there is little hope of his return to the Indian team. Also, he will have to play T20 International matches for India in two countries, so how will Bumrah's record be broken.

Now the question would be arising that which record of Dhoni did Bumrah break? So, Bumrah has overtaken Dhoni in terms of playing most T20 International matches for India. In this list, Rohit is at number one with 159 matches, while Dhoni was at number six with 98 matches. Now Bumrah has made this place with 99 matches.

Most T20 International matches for India

159 – Rohit Sharma

138 – Hardik Pandya

125 – Virat Kohli

113 – Suryakumar Yadav

106 – Akshar Patel*

99 – Jasprit Bumrah

98 – MS Dhoni
