Bamboo Airways makes 8th chairman change in under 5 years

Vietnamese private carrier Bamboo Airways has reinstated a former chairman, marking its eighth change in the post since 2022, as it operates with just one aircraft.

Le Thai Sam has returned as the airline’s chairman, according to a company statement on Wednesday. He replaced Truong Phuong Thanh, who remains CEO.

Sam first became chairman in July 2023 during a major overhaul of Bamboo Airways, after its founder, property developer FLC, handed control to a group of investors.

He most recently stepped down as chairman in November 2025, after the investor group handed control back to FLC. At the time, Sam said he would remain on the board and pledged to take responsibility for the airline’s performance during the preceding restructuring period.

Sam remains CEO and legal representative of several other businesses connected to Bamboo Airways.

Nearly a year after returning to FLC’s management, Bamboo Airways faces significant difficulties. It has only one aircraft left and has stopped operating scheduled domestic flights.
