Tezzbuzz Desk- The Election Commission has given instructions to run a special campaign regarding SIR. Its objective is to add the names of those eligible voters to the voter list who are left out after SIR. Along with this, first time voters and young voters will also be included in this campaign. The Commission has issued instructions to the Chief Electoral Officers of the respective States and Union Territories.
According to the instructions, the Booth Level Officer i.e. BLO will compare the previous and existing voter list with the SIR. A separate list will be prepared of such voters whose names were in the earlier list but are not in the current list. After this, BLOs will go door-to-door and inquire about the current situation of these voters. If found eligible, Form-6 will be filled to include their name in the voter list. BLOs have been given a target to contact at least 20 to 25 voters every week and complete the campaign in about a month.
The Commission has clarified that voter registration is an ongoing process. Eligible people whose names have not yet been included in the voter list or whose names have been removed can apply for enrollment through Form-6. BLOs will share the information of their prepared list and filled Form-6 with the Electoral Registration Officer i.e. ERO. The booth wise list will also be shared with the booth level agents of the political parties, so that the left out eligible voters get another opportunity to get their names added.
Under the instructions of the Commission, special camps will also be organized at the booth level. As per need, special campaigns can also be conducted for night shelters, labor colonies and homeless people.
