Crisis of single screen cinemas in Delhi
New Delhi: There was a time when in the localities of Delhi, the moment the curtain of the cinema rose, there was joy on the faces of the audience. Ticket prices were low and entertainment was available close to home. Every week there was a fair-like atmosphere outside the cinema hall. But with time multiplex culture emerged and within no time hundreds of single screen theaters in Delhi were closed. Now there is a demand to reactivate these closed cinema halls.
need for new policy
Dr. Dayanand Vats, convener of Delhi Single Screen Cinemas Darshak Manch and educationist, has requested Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta to make a new policy for the reconstruction and operation of closed single screen cinemas in Delhi.
Steps towards cheap entertainment
Dr. Vats said that single screen cinema halls have been an important means of cheap entertainment for common and poor families. Watching movies has now become expensive for ordinary families due to rising ticket rates in multiplexes. He has urged the government to make such a policy so that people can get affordable entertainment around them. For this, he has requested the Chief Minister to call a cabinet meeting and take immediate steps towards bringing 'Delhi Single Screen Cinema Policy'.
