New York, Oct 5:
American tennis star Emma Navarro has brought her 2026 season to an early end after revealing that she has been dealing with significant health problems and will now focus on treatment and recovery.
Navarro said she plans to return in time for the Australian Open in January. The decision comes after she revealed diagnoses of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) and Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism.
The American, who reached the US Open quarter-finals in September, has established herself as one of the leading players on the women’s tour. She has also won three WTA titles during her career.
Navarro said the health problems had affected her for an extended period and that taking time away from competition was necessary. Her decision highlights the physical demands faced by elite athletes and the importance of addressing health concerns rather than continuing to compete through them.
The 2026 season therefore ends earlier than expected for Navarro, with her focus now shifting towards treatment and a full return to competition in 2027.
