HMD appears to be working on a new Android tablet called the Slate Tab 5G, but the device has not yet been officially announced. Its specifications and design have surfaced through multiple leaks, and those reports do not fully agree on one important detail: the display size. While recent October 5–6 coverage continues to point to a 10.6-inch panel, a separate earlier report has mentioned a much larger 15.6-inch display. With HMD yet to confirm either figure, the safest conclusion is that the Slate Tab 5G’s final screen size remains unclear.
That discrepancy could make the Slate Tab 5G one of the more unusual HMD leaks to follow. The earlier information paints the picture of a conventional mid-range Android tablet, while the newer renders suggest something closer to a large-screen 2-in-1 machine. Neither version has been confirmed by HMD, so the two sets of information should not be merged into one final specification sheet.
The 10.6-inch Display Is Detailed, But Not Confirmed
The most detailed specification sheet currently associated with the Slate Tab 5G comes from a leak that describes the tablet with a 10.6-inch IPS LCD display. The panel is reportedly expected to offer a 2000 × 1200 resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. These specifications have also continued to appear in more recent coverage, making the 10.6-inch figure an important part of the current leak trail.
However, this should still be treated as an unconfirmed specification. A separate report has previously mentioned a 15.6-inch screen, creating uncertainty around the Slate Tab 5G’s eventual form factor. There is not enough information at present to establish whether the reports refer to different configurations, a redesigned product, or conflicting information about the same device.
Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 and a Large Battery
The same 10.6-inch leak provides a fairly detailed hardware configuration for the Slate Tab 5G. It reportedly includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage, and a 9,250mAh battery with support for 30W charging.
These specifications should be attributed specifically to the 10.6-inch leak. They should not automatically be considered specifications for the separately reported 15.6-inch version or any larger device shown in other reports. Until HMD confirms the product, there is no reliable basis for assuming that both sets of leaks describe exactly the same hardware configuration.
If the 10.6-inch specification eventually proves accurate, the 9,250mAh battery would be one of the more notable aspects of the tablet. However, battery capacity alone does not establish real-world endurance, and there is also no benchmark data available to make meaningful performance claims about the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2.
Lumia 2520 Inspiration Is Visible in the Design
The Slate Tab 5G’s design may be its most nostalgic feature. Recent renders reportedly show the tablet in blue and orange finishes, with a single rear camera and HMD branding. The overall styling has been compared with the Nokia Lumia 2520, particularly because of the colourful exterior and the apparent use of a polycarbonate-inspired design language.
However, it would be inaccurate to call the Slate Tab 5G a direct successor to the Lumia 2520. The comparison is about design inspiration. The Lumia 2520 was a 2013 Windows RT tablet, whereas the leaked HMD device is reportedly an Android tablet with modern connectivity and hardware.
The renders also show expansion contacts along the bottom edge. These appear similar to POGO-style contacts used for connecting accessories. Their presence could point towards a keyboard cover, dock, or another accessory, potentially giving the tablet a 2-in-1 role. Still, HMD has not confirmed that a keyboard will be available, let alone that it will ship with the tablet.
5G and Wi-Fi 6E Add to the Connectivity Package
Connectivity could be another strong point of the reported device. The leaked specifications include 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also reportedly included, which would give users a wired-audio option alongside wireless connectivity. Meanwhile, the combination of Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and NFC would give the tablet a fairly modern connectivity package if the leak proves accurate.

The Biggest Mystery Is the Display Size
The biggest question surrounding the Slate Tab 5G right now is its display size. One set of leaks describes a 10.6-inch 2000 × 1200 90Hz IPS LCD, while a separate report has mentioned a 15.6-inch display. Importantly, the latter should not be presented as a confirmed size shown by the newest renders. More recent October 5–6 coverage continues to describe the device as 10.6-inch, so the available information remains contradictory.
This also means the two reports should not be stitched together into one specification sheet. The Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, 8GB RAM, 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, and 9,250mAh battery belong to the detailed 10.6-inch leak and cannot automatically be attributed to the allegedly larger configuration. Likewise, the reported Lumia 2520-inspired styling and expansion contacts do not by themselves prove that the tablet is a 15.6-inch 2-in-1.
For now, the most accurate takeaway is that separate leaks have reported different display sizes, while HMD has yet to confirm which, if either, reflects the final Slate Tab 5G. The uncertainty actually makes the tablet more interesting to watch, particularly because the difference between 10.6 and 15.6 inches would represent a substantial change in how the device is positioned.
