Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia is dealing with a fresh security crisis after attacks blamed on Yemen's Houthi rebels hit airports in Abha and Riyadh, leaving three people dead and 36 injured, Saudi aviation authorities said.
The incidents took place on two consecutive days (October 6 and 7) at Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport, with authorities stepping up security measures and coordinating with security agencies to assess the impact.
Two Women Killed In Abha Attack
According to GACA, two women were killed in the attack on Abha airport. The victims were residents of Saudi Arabia, one from Morocco and the other from Algeria. The incident also left 28 people injured.
At Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, another civilian, a Sudanese national, was killed. Eight people were injured in the attack, including five Saudi citizens. GACA said it was coordinating with security agencies to assess the damage and take measures to protect passengers and airport staff.
Ballistic Missile Intercepted Near Riyadh
Saudi-led coalition spokesperson Major-General Turki al-Maliki said Saudi forces intercepted a ballistic missile north of Riyadh. He also said a launch platform in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, used for attacks against Riyadh was destroyed.
The latest strikes come amid a series of security incidents involving Saudi airports. Authorities had earlier reported intercepting a suspected Houthi missile launched towards Riyadh.
Security Alert Issued For Citizens
Meanwhile, Riyadh issued another security alert, urging citizens in Saudi Arabia to remain highly vigilant due to the continuing security situation. The attacks come as fighting continues between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and Iran-aligned Houthi forces, who control large areas of the country near the strategic Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
