Upcoming EV: Suzuki is now preparing to increase its presence in the electric car market. The company, which till now has focused more on hybrid vehicles, has launched its first small electric passenger car Suzuki e-Sky in Japan. This car has been introduced with affordable price, compact design and good driving range. At the same time, a new car based on its electric model is also expected to be launched in the Indian market.

Battery and range
Suzuki E-Sky has a 26 kWh capacity LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery pack. According to the company, this car can give a range of up to 310 kilometers once fully charged as per WLTC testing cycle. The use of LFP battery technology helps keep costs under control, making the car affordable.

Suzuki has prepared a special platform named HEARTECT-e for this electric car. It includes electric motor, inverter, reduction gear and battery pack. This platform has been designed keeping in mind the needs of small electric cars.

Suzuki E-Sky price and variants
Suzuki E-Sky has been introduced in two variants A and X in the Japanese market. Their prices are as follows:

A variant: 21.2 lakh JPY, approximately Rs 12.97 lakh.

X variant: 27.9 lakh JPY, approximately Rs 17.07 lakh.

After the CEV subsidy of 5.68 lakh yen available in Japan, the price of its base variant may come down to around 15.52 lakh yen i.e. approximately Rs 9.48 lakh. At this price, it can become an attractive option for customers buying entry-level electric cars.

In the Japanese market, it will compete with BYD Racco, which was launched in July this year.

When will it be launched in other countries?
The Suzuki e-Sky is expected to be available in showrooms in Japan by November 16. After this, the company can launch it in international markets like Britain and Europe in 2027. In Japan, the company aims to sell about 1,000 units every month.

Suzuki’s new electric car can come to India also
Suzuki is also eyeing plans to introduce a small electric car for the Indian market. The model coming to India is expected to be based on the Suzuki eWX concept, which has already been patented.

Considering the needs of the Indian market, the length of this electric car can be kept less than 4 meters. Its starting ex-showroom price is also expected to be less than Rs 10 lakh. The e-Sky in Japan has been designed in a compact size as per the local regulations, while the model offered in India may be slightly larger in size.

However, official information is yet to be revealed from the company regarding its launch timeline, battery capacity, range and price in India.
