New Delhi. India has once again made its stand clear on China's claim regarding Ladakh. India has bluntly said that the Union Territory of Ladakh is an integral and inseparable part of the country and China's denial cannot change this established fact. This reaction comes after China expressed objection to the Indian move to decide the names of 28 places in Ladakh.
Why did China protest against the name of 28 places?
China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had on Tuesday objected to India's move. He had said that China does not recognize the so-called Union Territory of Ladakh. The Chinese side had termed India's move as illegal and invalid and claimed that the areas concerned in the western sector of the India-China border belong to China.
China had also said that India's decision to name these places will not affect its claim.
India said- China's denial will not change the fact
On China's comment, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, while presenting India's side, said that the Union Territory of Ladakh is an integral and inseparable part of India. He clarified that this is an established fact and the denial by the Chinese side will not change it.
Jaiswal said that 28 places and geographical features of Ladakh have been identified with standard names on the official maps of the Survey of India. This process was completed after discussions with Ladakh and local stakeholders.
What is India's objective behind deciding the name?
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the purpose of identifying these places on the official map is to identify them accurately and to increase knowledge about them among the general public. India has presented the move as a process involving official mapping and local consultation.
There have been long standing differences between India and China over territorial claims regarding Ladakh. Through this response, India has reiterated its position on sovereignty over Ladakh.
