BCCI Selection Committee: A major change has been made in the men's selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has been appointed as the new chairman of the selection committee, while former cricketer Ramesh Powar has also been included in the committee. With this decision of the Board, the process of reconstitution of the Men's Selection Committee has been completed. The responsibility of the new committee will be to take important decisions related to the selection of players and future strategy for the Indian team.
According to the BCCI, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) completed the selection process to appoint a member of the men's selection committee. Under this, screening and interviews of applicants were conducted at BCCI Headquarters. Ashok Malhotra and Jatin Paranjape, who were part of the CAC, unanimously recommended Ramesh Powar's name after completing the process. The board gave official information about this appointment on Monday.
Pragyan Ojha will take over the responsibility of president
According to BCCI, the chairmanship of the selection committee has been decided on the basis of seniority of matches played in Test cricket. On this basis, Pragyan Ojha has been made the chairman of the committee. He will take over this responsibility in place of Ajit Agarkar. Ojha has played Test (24 Tests) and limited overs (18 ODIs and 6 T20Is) cricket for the Indian team and has a special identity in spin bowling.
Appreciation of Ajit Agarkar's tenure
BCCI has also praised the contribution of former chief selector Ajit Agarkar. Agarkar took over as chairman of the selection committee in July 2023. During his tenure the Indian team won three ICC trophies. Apart from this, the team won two Asia Cup titles and won gold medal twice in the Asian Games. The Board expressed gratitude for his contribution and commitment to Indian cricket.
Now these five members will handle the responsibility of selection
Apart from Pragyan Ojha, the new male selection committee includes Shiv Sundar Das, RP Singh, Ajay Ratra and Ramesh Powar. This committee will take important decisions related to the selection of players for the Indian men's team.
Ramesh Powar (2 Tests and 31 ODIs) has experience in international cricket as well as coaching. He has been the head coach of the Indian women's team. Apart from this, he has also done coaching responsibilities with the teams of Mumbai and Gujarat. He has also worked as a bowling coach at the BCCI Center of Excellence. During her tenure with the Indian women's team, the team won the Asia Cup title and won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games.
The new selection committee will now face the challenge of creating a strong team combination for Indian cricket and giving opportunities to talented players. Cricket fans will keep an eye on the decisions of the committee under the leadership of Pragyan Ojha.
