BJP has suffered a major setback in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council (MLC) elections in the state capital Lucknow. Samajwadi Party candidate Kanti Singh has registered a spectacular victory on the Lucknow block graduate seat. He defeated BJP's outgoing MLC Avnish Kumar Singh by a huge margin of 17,127 votes.
Kanti Singh got 56,905 votes, while Avnish Kumar Singh got 39,778 votes. With this victory, SP snatched this seat from BJP. On the other hand, BJP's Umesh Dwivedi has scored a hat-trick of victory on the teacher seat of Lucknow. However, independent candidate Smita Mishra is being discussed the most. He is being trolled fiercely after losing the elections.
Who is Smita Mishra?
Smita Mishra is the wife of astrologer Indu Prakash Mishra. He had contested the Lucknow Graduate MLC seat as an independent candidate. On 28 September 2026, he took membership of Congress in the presence of Ajay Rai. An assurance of ticket was received from the party, but after Ajay Rai's withdrawal, the new president Aradhana Mishra 'Mona' canceled his ticket. Angered by this, Smita contested the elections as an independent candidate, but she got less than 300 votes. She is also associated with the youth group formed in 2014.

On social media platforms, people have fiercely targeted Smita Mishra's husband Indu Prakash Mishra over her defeat. One user said- The wife of a fortune teller in Lucknow lost the elections. The astrologer could not predict his wife's electoral fate. Another said – Those who predict the future of others could not see the future of their own house.
The third user wrote – Those who used to work after listening to Baba's predictions, used to think that Baba is extremely knowledgeable, but today Baba could not tell the future of his own wife. The fourth said – Smita, wife of future-telling astrologer Indu Prakash, lost the election.
