The court asked the actor, who holds an OCI card, to express unconditional apology or regret. The ban was extended on the notice of FRRO.
Tezzbuzz Desk – Mumbai, 2 November. A hearing was held in the Bombay High Court on Monday in the case of 'Leave India Notice' issued to Bollywood actor Imran Khan. The actor, who challenged this notice from the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), assured the court that he would not participate in any protest in future.
This case is related to the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai on October 10. After this, on October 14, FRRO had issued a notice to Imran Khan to leave India by October 28. The actor had approached the Bombay High Court challenging this. The court had earlier stayed this notice.
During the hearing, the court said that Imran Khan is not an Indian citizen but an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holder. The court asked him to give a written undertaking not to participate in such demonstrations in future and to express unconditional apology or regret. On behalf of the actor, his lawyer assured the court that he would not participate in any further protests.
Imran Khan's lawyer told the court that the actor has no connection with any protesting organization. He also told that Imran is an American citizen, but has been living in India since childhood and it is here that he has made his life and film career.
The court has extended the stay on the FRRO notice till December 7, so that the actor can get an opportunity to respond to the notice. Now the further legal process in the matter will be monitored.
