The International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah officially opened the Tanzania Cricket Arena on Monday, marking the country’s first ICC-approved cricket venue. The inauguration represents a significant advance for cricket development in Tanzania and the wider African continent.
Shah congratulated Cricket Tanzania on the achievement, praising the combined efforts that contributed to establishing world-class cricket infrastructure in the country. On his official Instagram account, Shah stated, “Congratulations to Cricket Tanzania on the opening of the Tanzania Cricket Arena – a landmark moment for cricket in Tanzania and across Africa. It was an honour to officially inaugurate this terrific new facility, the first ICC-approved cricket arena in the country. The venue is a testament to the vision, dedication and hard work of everyone involved in growing the game in Tanzania.”
Tanzania has been an ICC associate member since 2001 and holds T20 International status. The Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA), as per its official website, is the national cricket governing body. Tanzania is one of 40 ICC associate members with voting rights. The Tanzania men’s national team is ranked sixth in the men’s T20 International rankings, while the women’s team holds 20th place in women’s cricket rankings.
