Bologna are preparing a swoop for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, claim reports, and the veteran Austria international could be a bargain.

According to Sportowy reporter Ekrem Konur, the 32-year-old will not have his contract renewed, meaning he could be a free agent at the end of this season.

That makes a summer sale their last real chance to get a fee for the player, so talks have started and an offer could arrive over the next few days.

Bologna are seeking reinforcements for new coach Domenico Tedesco, who took over from Vincenzo Italiano for this term.

Sabitzer has a long career behind him, including playing for RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and Manchester United before the €19m move to Borussia Dortmund in 2023.

He also has a massive 102 senior caps for Austria, in which he scored 27 goals from midfield.

There were 34 competitive appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season, scoring one goal and providing four assists.

It was a return to form, considering he suffered a collateral medial tear in his knee in March 2025.

He has been linked with a Serie A move in recent years, most notably for Roma.
