Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today reiterated the firm commitment of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to realise the dreams of patriots who made great sacrifices to free the country from the slavery of British imperialism.
Addressing a state-level function organized in Sunam to mark the 87th martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, the Chief Minister said that the unparalleled patriotism and incomparable sacrifice of this great revolutionary will continue to inspire future generations to serve the nation selflessly and the country will always remain indebted to this great martyr. Earlier, the Chief Minister paid tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh by laying a wreath at his memorial.

Let us tell you that while paying tribute to martyr Udham Singh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann wrote on Instagram, “On the martyrdom day of the great revolutionary martyr Udham Singh ji, who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, I pay my heartfelt tribute to him. His unparalleled sacrifice for the honour and pride of the country will always remain a source of inspiration for all of us.”
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “Martyr Udham Singh Ji sacrificed his life for the freedom of the country. It is a matter of immense pride and satisfaction for me to be a part of this sacred occasion of paying tribute to this great martyr. Countless brave sons and women of the country sacrificed their lives in India’s freedom struggle, so that by giving freedom to the country, a society based on equality could be established for the welfare of the weak and deprived sections.”
The Chief Minister said, “Today, we all have gathered here on the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji to pay our deep respect to this great patriot. He avenged the massacre carried out by the then British regime at Jallianwala Bagh, where hundreds of unarmed and innocent Indians were brutally murdered on the orders of Michael O’Dwyer, the then Lieutenant Governor of Punjab. Shaheed Udham Singh ensured justice by punishing Michael O’Dwyer for his crime at Caxton Hall in London.”
Paying emotional tribute to the great martyr at the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial at the stadium, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann laid a wreath in his honour. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “This is a sacred land, where people from India and abroad come to draw inspiration from the unique life of Shaheed Udham Singh Ji and pay tribute to him. This true son of the motherland displayed unparalleled courage and valour by eliminating Michael O’Dwyer, the main culprit of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.”
He further said, “The great sacrifice made by this brave son of the motherland in the national freedom struggle further strengthened India’s resolve to overthrow British imperialism. The sacrifice of Martyr Udham Singh Ji will continue to inspire our youth to selflessly dedicate themselves to the service of the nation. Our country will always be indebted to this great martyr, who made the supreme sacrifice of his life for the motherland.” Present on the occasion were senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab Affairs in-charge Manish Sisodia, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and several other dignitaries.
