Tumkur (Karnataka), July 30. A strange act involving a cunning rat has come to light in Tumkur, Karnataka. The rat stole gold and diamond jewelry worth lakhs of rupees from a jewelry shop and carried it away in its burrow. A video of this incident, captured on CCTV, is going viral on social media.
Camera footage reveals rat theft
This incident came to light when gold and diamond jewelry worth Rs. 10 lakh disappeared from a jewelry shop in Tumkur, 60 kilometers north of Bengaluru, without the shutters being broken. Shop employees were surprised to find no signs of the shop’s shutters or doors being broken. Furthermore, there was no sign of anyone entering the shop from the outside. Suspecting something unusual, the owner and employees examined the CCTV footage.

After reviewing the CCTV footage, staff traced the rat’s burrow and recovered the missing jewelry.

Ten rings, three gold chains, and diamond-studded jewelry were recovered after digging the burrow.
When staff viewed the CCTV footage, they were stunned to discover that this unusual thief was not a human but a small rat, dragging the jewelry into its burrow one by one. They later tracked the rat and located its burrow. When they dug the burrow, they found around 10 rings, three gold chains, and diamond-studded jewelry, much to the owner’s relief. Investigation revealed that the rat had eaten the price tags on the gold and diamond jewellery.
Shop owner Vishwas explained the incident, “During our daily count of the gold jewellery, our staff noticed that about 10 rings were missing. We initially suspected theft. We immediately checked the CCTV footage, but found no clue. An employee noticed that the price tags on some of the rings were missing. So we checked the CCTV footage again and saw a rat picking up a gold ring. Later, we traced the rat’s burrow, where we found all the jewellery.”
