Documentary made in honor of late actor Irrfan Khan, show to be shown at Nita Ambani Cultural Center
Mumbai Honoring the legacy of late actor Irrfan Khan, a special documentary has been announced showcasing his journey during the shooting of Paan Singh Tomar. The film will be screened at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center on April 29, her sixth death anniversary. Ranjita Kaur’s documentary A Story That Refused to Die shows some rare and unseen moments of Irrfan Khan during the making of Paan Singh Tomar. Made from almost lost footage, the film comes across as a quiet but determined attempt to capture and preserve those small, deeply human moments from the work of such an incredible artist.

The screening of the film will be followed by a panel discussion in which Tigmanshu Dhulia and Vishal Bhardwaj will be in conversation with Saurabh Dwivedi. While sharing the promo of the documentary, Tigmanshu Dhulia said that the journey of making Paan Singh Tomar passed through many storms, but Hemingway was right when he said, it is better to walk with a friend in the dark than to walk alone in the light. Making Paan Singh Tomar would not have been possible without my most trusted partner, Irfan. Now, six years have passed without him but just like the name of this documentary, ‘A Story That Refused to Die’, Irrfan’s contribution to cinema will always remain immortal. Now that the nearly lost footage has been recovered, this special documentary will be shown for the first time in 14 years. Documentary director Ranjita Kaur said that I was very lucky that I got the opportunity to be a part of the journey of making a great film. This experience was so powerful that it inspired me to carve my own path in the world of cinema. Of course, it was the strength of courage and courage gained from the journey of Paan Singh Tomar, which kept me from giving up. This documentary is a salute from me to Paan Singh Tomar, to Irrfan Khan and to the power of cinema. Irrfan died on April 29, 2020, in a hospital in Mumbai. He was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor and he lost his life due to this disease.
