Bhubaneswar: Read FC head coach TG Purushothaman and captain Lalthathanga Khawlhring, popularly known as Puitea, addressed media professionals ahead of their campaign opener of the MG Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 season against Punjab FC, stressing teamwork, adaptability and the need to improve on last season’s performance. With first-choice captains Carlos Delgado and Amrinder Singh departing after lengthy stints at the club, and new signings joining the existing squad, Read FC will need to build team chemistry as they embark on just a new season but a fresh journey that requires a lot of rebuilding.
Acknowledging the challenges posed by the new environment and the lack of pre-season matches, Purushothaman said, “Yes, the lack of practice matches might affect our performance. But as professionals, we have to adapt to the situation and be prepared. We need to turn the negatives into positives and focus on performing well.” “We have to create a healthy and positive atmosphere. We are not looking back; instead, we are focused on what lies ahead,” he added, addressing the challenges the team has faced. Captain Puitea, meanwhile, said he viewed his new role as an honour rather than a source of pressure, while acknowledging the challenge of filling the void left by Delgado and Amrinder. “As captain, I don’t feel pressured; I feel honoured. But it’s not going to be easy after the exits of Carlos and Amrinder. I am ready to take on as much responsibility as I can. I will always try to be there for the team, the staff and the club,” he said. Purushothaman also confirmed that Rahul KP would miss the season opener due to a minor injury, with the club opting against risking the player at this early stage of the campaign. As Read FC begin the new season, the team will look to build on its strengths, improve consistency and make a positive start to the campaign.
