Both of them met on the sets of the film ‘Lagaan’, where Kiran was the assistant director. In 2011, their son Azad Rao Khan was born through surrogacy.

After living together for about 16 years, Aamir and Kiran got divorced in 2021, but their separation happened with utmost mutual understanding and decency. Both are still great friends, raising their son Azad together and also working together professionally.
