New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) activist Abhijeet Dipke has called on people to gather at Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi, on October 16 to hoist the national flag, alleging that fellow activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were jailed for hoisting the Tricolour.
In a post on X, Dipke appealed to patriots and people who take pride in the national flag to assemble at the park at 5 pm on Thursday under the slogan, “Lehra do Tiranga”.
“As you all know, Saurabh and Aashu have been jailed simply for hoisting the Tricolour. So, I appeal to all patriots — to everyone who loves the Tricolour to gather at Central Park, Connaught Place, on October 16th at 5 PM with the flag; we will hoist it there and demonstrate that waving the Tricolour is not a crime,” he wrote.
Dipke also urged people unable to travel to Delhi to organize a ‘Tiranga March’ in their respective cities in the evening.
Calling the national flag a symbol of pride, he said, “Let these people — these autocrats — know that our Tricolor is our pride and hoisting it is not a crime.”
He also said he was prepared to face arrest following the appeal and would not be deterred from hoisting the flag.
“I might be jailed after this, but I am not worried about that. The Tricolor is my pride, and I will certainly hoist it,” Dipke said.
CJP activists detained at Jantar Mantar
The appeal comes a day after Delhi Police detained CJP activists Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ajinkya Shinde after they allegedly attempted to breach security barricades and enter Jantar Mantar, which had been denotified as a protest site.
The activists had gathered at the site in the early hours of Tuesday to stage a demonstration. According to reports, security personnel arrived shortly after the protest began and took the group into custody.
Announcing the detentions in a post on X, Dipke wrote: “Cockroaches with the Tiranga sneaked into Jantar Mantar early this morning before they were picked up by Delhi Police. Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ajinkya, along with other team members, have been detained. You cannot denotify the resistance, @narendramodi.”
Ranka also posted a message on X saying, “Hands Off Jantar Mantar.”
The proposed gathering at Central Park is the latest move by the CJP following the detentions, with Dipke calling on people across the country to demonstrate their support for the Tricolor and challenge the restrictions on protests at Jantar Mantar.
