Adidas Layoffs: Sportswear company Adidas has decided to reduce the number of employees on a large scale in its technology organization in India. The company has confirmed the elimination of several positions at its India Tech Hub in Gurugram. This decision has affected many technology related roles including software engineer, data scientist and data engineer. According to reports, about 700 employees work in this tech hub of Gurugram. Of these, it has come to light that about 350 or more employees have been affected. This means that about 45 to 50 percent of the hub’s workforce may be affected.
However, Adidas has not yet made public any exact figures of employee layoffs. Information given on September 15: Information about layoffs was given to the employees during a town hall meeting held on September 15. The affected employees have been divided into two groups. Some employees of one group were given exit letters on the same day.
At the same time, employees of the second group have been given the opportunity to work in the company till December. During this time, these employees will have to complete the handover of important work to their colleagues working in other tech hubs. Additionally, they are also given the option to apply for other roles within the company. Why were the layoffs done? According to Adidas, the main reason for the change in the technology organization is to adapt the company’s operating model to the changing needs of the business.
The company wants to simplify certain parts of the organization and plans to focus more on essential technology capabilities. It is clear from this that the company’s focus is on making the existing structure of the technology team smaller and more effective.
