14 Teams to Participate
A total of 14 teams will participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup, to be hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. The three host nations have secured direct berths, while the remaining 10 teams, ranked in the top 10, must qualify directly by the September 30 cutoff date. Only one spot remains, for which a contest is underway between Bangladesh and the West Indies.

Who gave Afghanistan this victory?
In the second ODI against Ireland, Afghanistan batted first and set a target of 300 runs. Their bowlers then performed brilliantly and restricted Ireland to 207 runs. The biggest hero of Afghanistan’s victory was Rashid Khan, who took 6 wickets for just 34 runs.
Six teams have already secured their places
Before Afghanistan, India, Australia, New Zealand, England, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka had secured their places through the rankings. South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia received direct entry due to being hosts.
Bangladesh is now in a strong position for the last direct qualification spot. Bangladesh is currently ranked 9th. If the proposed ODI series between India and Bangladesh in September does not take place, Bangladesh’s chances of direct qualification will increase further. In such a situation, the West Indies may have to play in the World Cup qualifier round.
