Even though the tenure of Ajit Agarkar is till October 4, but before that Pragyan Ojha has been given the responsibility of interim Chief Selector. Agarkar was not a part of Team India's selection committee meeting held in Guwahati on September 29. The meeting was commanded by current selection committee member and former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha. After this change, Ojha is currently working as the head of the selection committee. However, whether this arrangement will be permanent or will last for some time will depend on the future appointments.
Pragyan Ojha led the selection committee in the meeting held in Guwahati on 29 September. Ajit Agarkar was not involved in this meeting in any way. At the same time, during the second ODI match between India and West Indies on September 30, it has been said that all the selectors will be present in the stadium. During this time, work is also to be done on preparing the outline of the team for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. At present, Pragyan Ojha has been made the interim Chief Selector, but he may also have the option to remain in this post permanently. This situation will become completely clear only after the appointment of the new selector.
Pragyan Ojha has the experience of being the most senior Test player among the current members of the selection committee. He has played 24 test matches for India. In terms of experience in the current selection committee, Shiv Sundar Das has played 23 Test matches, RP Singh has played 14 Test matches and Ajay Ratra has played 6 Test matches. In this respect, Ojha has the most experience in Test matches compared to the other members. For this reason, arrangements have been made to make him the head of the selection committee for the time being. The 40-year-old former Indian spinner's name was also put forward as a candidate for the post of chairman and he has been asked to handle this responsibility.
Now the biggest question is whether this role of Pragyan Ojha will be limited to interim arrangements only or will he be made the chairman of the selection committee permanently. This situation will be more clear when a new selector will be appointed in place of Ajit Agarkar and he will join the selection committee. If Parthiv Patel replaces Ajit Agarkar, then in such a situation there is a possibility of him becoming the chairman. If the circumstances remain different then Pragyan Ojha can continue in the role of head of the selection committee.
At present Pragyan Ojha is being seen as an acceptable candidate among all the existing selectors and on this basis he has been given the interim responsibility. Ajit Agarkar's tenure is formally till October 4, but in his absence, Ojha is handling the responsibility of the selection committee. Further, only after the appointment of a new selector and the changes in the selection committee, it will be decided who gets the permanent responsibility on the post of Chief Selector.
