Doctors of Swami Dayanand Hospital, Dilshad Garden of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have successfully treated an eight-year-old girl suffering from a rare disease and given her a new life. The team of the pediatrics department of the hospital treated the girl suffering from Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Head of the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Surendra Singh Bisht said that Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare autoimmune disease. In this, the body's immune system mistakenly starts attacking the nerves, which can cause weakness and other problems to the patient.
What is Guillain-Barré syndrome?
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy nerves. Due to this, the functioning of the nerves can be affected and the patient starts having problems like muscle weakness, numbness or pain. Usually its symptoms may start from feet and hands. In many cases, due to increasing weakness in the legs, the patient starts having trouble walking. If children also have this disease, their ability to walk may be affected.
According to doctors, the symptoms of Guillain-Barré syndrome often start in the feet and hands and gradually spread to the upper parts of the body. In some cases the weakness may extend from the legs to the thighs, arms and face. In serious condition, the patient may have trouble breathing and may need ventilator support.
Successful treatment after staying in hospital for 83 days
According to Dr. Surendra Singh Bisht, Head of Pediatrics Department, the girl's father took her to Swami Dayanand Hospital for treatment on June 29 in a very critical condition. Considering the serious condition of the girl, she was kept on ventilator and ICU support for about 40 days. After this the girl was kept in High Dependency Unit (HDU) for about 43 days. In this way she remained hospitalized for about 83 days. During this period, many doctors including the Pediatrics Department of the hospital continuously monitored and treated him. After prolonged treatment, the girl's condition improved and she was successfully treated.
The ability to breathe was also being affected.
According to doctors, the girl had become extremely weak due to the disease and her breathing ability was also getting affected. Despite his critical condition, his condition gradually improved with constant monitoring and treatment by doctors. After treatment in the hospital for about 83 days, the girl was discharged from the hospital on Monday, September 21. Doctors said that his condition was continuously monitored during treatment.
Many modern equipment will be installed in corporation hospitals
The facilities of modern machines and medical equipment are being increased in the hospitals of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Mayor Parvesh Wahi said that eight big hospitals of the corporation are being continuously expanded and many projects related to this will be started in the coming days. He informed that in August, many modern machines were installed in the corporation's largest Hindu Rao Hospital. Now similar facilities will be extended to other corporation hospitals also.
Equipped with advanced medical facilities
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Corporation, Satya Sharma said that state-of-the-art medical facilities and modern equipment have been installed in Hindu Rao Hospital. The hospital has introduced facilities like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), advanced emergency department, hospice and physiotherapy block, integrated blood sample collection center and state-of-the-art equipment in the ophthalmology department for eye examination. Apart from this, equipment like modern 4K laparoscopy system, C-arm machine, visual field analyzer, fundus camera, phaco emulsification machine, non-contact tonometer, cryoablator, advanced 4K laparoscope and pneumatic lithotripter have been provided in the hospital.
Facilities like Pediatric Spirometer, CTG (Cardiotocography), state-of-the-art labor room and modern gym in the Physiotherapy department have also been introduced. According to the corporation, these facilities are expected to benefit around 5,000 patients daily at Hindu Rao Hospital. Satya Sharma said that other corporation hospitals are also being upgraded in a phased manner. After the expansion of facilities in these hospitals and primary health centers, about 25,000 patients are expected to benefit from health services every day.
