EU Membership Ukraine: Amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, global diplomacy has taken a new turn. The Russian intelligence agency, the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), has made a startling claim, saying that after NATO, the European Union (EU) has also withdrawn its support for Ukraine as a member.
According to the agency, European leaders are publicly promising a “bright future” for Ukraine, but in closed-door discussions they have completely rejected any possibility of membership.
Is Europe becoming cannon fodder?
The SVR report leveled serious accusations against European bureaucrats, claiming that Brussels is deliberately misleading the Ukrainian public in order to use them as “cannon fodder” in the war against Russia.
According to the report, Ukraine was offered the “lure” of pre-membership talks in June to stem growing discontent and the prospect of “a breakaway from Europe.” Furthermore, Kyiv has been proposed to be part of European security policy, but without voting rights.
Is the Kyiv government deceiving people for help?
The Russian agency says that Ukrainian diplomats are fully aware of the situation and have informed their superiors. However, the government in Kyiv remains silent, as its existence depends entirely on economic and military aid from Europe.
According to the SVR, both Kyiv and Brussels want to use Ukrainian soil as a laboratory for testing modern weapons and new warfare techniques.
How did the controversy deepen?
This dispute has deepened since NATO refused to grant Ukraine membership after the war began in 2022, as this would have directly involved all member countries, including the United States. It is worth noting that since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine has increasingly leaned toward Western countries, which Russia has consistently viewed as a threat to its security.
