A very relieving news has emerged for government employees. The state employees of Sikkim, who have been waiting for Dearness Allowance (DA) for a long time, have finally got great news. The state government has announced a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) of its employees and pensioners. Since this announcement, there has been a wave of happiness among the employees.
Increased DA will be applicable from January 2026, arrears will be received on this day
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang announced this 2 percent DA and DR hike for the employees on Saturday. According to PTI report, the benefit of this increased allowance will be given to the employees from January 1, 2026.
The question in the minds of employees is when will the outstanding arrears be paid? During the program in Gangtok, the Chief Minister made it clear that this arrears will be paid to the employees before the festival of 'Dashain 2026'. This major festival in the state is celebrated with great pomp from 11 to 21 October. In such a situation, there is full hope that the arrears money will be credited to the employees' accounts along with the salary for the month of September.
What is the condition of central employees and other states?
The Central Government revises DA and DR for its employees and pensioners twice (January and July) every year. Recently, dearness allowance of central employees was increased by 2 percent, after which their DA has directly increased from 58 percent to 60 percent. The government had announced the DA for January 2026, but the DA for July 2026 is yet to be announced, which is expected to be announced around Diwali.
Apart from this, Indian Railways has also increased the DA and DR of its employees by 2 percent.
Various state governments also increased DA
- West Bengal: The Shubhendu Adhikari-led state government has increased the DA of employees by a record 20 percent, after which the DA there has increased to 38 percent. Employees of Bengal will get this benefit from October.
- Arunachal, Assam, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh: The governments of these states have also approved a 2 percent increase in DA of their respective employees.
- Bihar: Bihar government has increased the DA of employees working under the 7th Pay Commission by 2 percent, while the allowance of employees getting salary under the 6th Pay Commission has been increased by 5 percent.
