Smart Traffic System In Ahmedabad: Now the hassle of standing unnecessarily at traffic signals can end. A new AI based traffic system has been implemented in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, which is controlling the city’s traffic in a smart manner.

Under this pilot project, Adaptive Traffic Control System (ATCS) has been installed at 10 major intersections, which is completely operated by AI. Initial results show that this has significantly improved traffic flow.

What is Adaptive Traffic Control System?

It is a smart system that controls traffic lights based on real-time data instead of fixed time. In normal traffic signals the timing is fixed in advance, but this is not the case in ATCS. The system continuously analyzes the number of vehicles on the road, speed and lane position and changes the signal timing accordingly.

How does AI traffic system work?

In this system, cameras and sensors installed at intersections monitor the traffic every moment.

• If traffic at a signal ends early, the time is reduced
• The remaining time in the empty lane is given to the crowded lane.
• Signal automatically adjusts according to traffic conditions
• Due to this, vehicles do not have to stop unnecessarily and traffic remains smooth.
