Now AI will tell the weather condition every hour, Google introduced WeatherNext 3 model

Technology Desk: Now there may be less need to depend on the Meteorological Department's website or different apps to know the weather conditions. Google has introduced its new WeatherNext 3 AI model. The company claims that this is its most advanced and accurate global weather model till date.

WeatherNext 3 uses real-time weather data and information from geostationary satellites. It can prepare a new forecast of the weather every hour. According to Google, this model will be used to provide weather information in services like Google Search, Gemini, Google Maps, Google Maps Platform and Google Earth Engine.

Weather will tell in more detail than before

The biggest feature of WeatherNext 3 is its high-resolution forecast. According to Google, it can estimate information like temperature and humidity at a resolution of 5 kilometers. Ground-related information can be tracked at a resolution of about 10 kilometers and atmospheric information like wind speed can be tracked at a resolution of 25 kilometers.

Google says that WeatherNext 3 provides a global weather picture with about 5 times more detail than the previous model WeatherNext 2. The old model provided weather forecasts every 6 hours on a 25 kilometer grid, while the new model can update its data every hour.

It will be easier to track storms and sudden rains

WeatherNext 3 produces a new forecast every hour. This can make it easier to monitor rapidly changing weather events like storms, cyclones and sudden rains. According to Google, in older numerical weather models it could take several hours to update weather data. WeatherNext 3 uses live geostationary satellite data directly. Due to this, the model keeps getting information about the latest weather conditions.

Also useful for mountain and sea areas

Weather is not predicted only on the basis of satellite data. WeatherNext 3 also uses data from ground-based weather stations. This can help in better predicting the weather in areas like mountains, valleys and sea shores. According to Google, its benefits may be greater in areas like Latin America, Africa and Asia-Pacific.

Rain forecast also claims to be more accurate

Google trained WeatherNext 3 with the help of NASA's IMERG rainfall data and its Global Precipitation Database. According to the company's tests, the model scored 60% better than IMERG, 30% better than MRMS and 10% better than rain gauge readings in early forecast.

There will be benefits in solar and wind energy also

WeatherNext 3 has been designed not only for general weather information but also for planning of solar and wind energy. It can estimate wind speed, cloud position and solar radiation at a height of 100 meters. This can help wind and solar energy companies decide how much electricity can be generated at any given time.

WeatherNext 3 will be available in Google's service

Google is now incorporating WeatherNext 3 into many of its services. The company says that when people plan a trip or other work a day or two in advance, they can get a more accurate forecast of rain than before. According to Google, the accuracy of rain forecasts can be up to 50% better in some cases. This is expected to help especially in those areas where earlier it was difficult to provide accurate weather information.
