Air Force Chief A.P. Singh flags off second Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon

New Delhi, 04 October 2026: Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh today launched the second edition of 'Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon' at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. This marathon is being organized in the memory of Paramvir Chakra winner Flying Officer Nirmal Jeet Singh Sekhon of the Indian Air Force. The objective of this marathon is to encourage people for fitness, adventure and national unity.

South Western Air Command organized the #SekhonIAFMarathon2026 at Jodhpur, honoring the valor and supreme sacrifice of Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC. Beyond Jodhpur, the spirit of the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon 2026 resonated across the SWAC AoR and over 15,000 participants running in unison.

The marathon at Jodhpur was a special event, conducted as part of the multinational Exercise – Tarang Shakti and witnessed over 4,000 participants, including Friendly Foreign Country personnel, Air Warriors, families and citizens, celebrating fitness, unity and international camaraderie under the theme 'Power in Partnership'.

The event featured 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km runs, which were flagged off by various dignitaries including Air Marshal PV Shivanand, AOC-in-C SWAC, AVM GS Bhullar, SOA HQ SWAC, Shri Rahul Jain, Commissioner JNN. The event transformed Jodhpur's iconic streets into a vibrant celebration of sporting spirit and shared values.

Excellent support by the civil administration and Commissioner of Police, Jodhpur, embodied discipline, teamwork and patriotism. The Sekhon marathon Jodhpur was a grand success, promoting wellness, camaraderie and national pride among all age groups.

It will include runs of 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 5 kilometers. The winners will be given a cash prize of up to Rs 1 lakh. Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon displayed indomitable courage during the India-Pakistan war of 1971; While protecting Srinagar airfield, he faced six 'Sabre' jet planes of Pakistan. His bravery and sacrifice are remembered even today.
