Air India Flight Turbulence: An Air India flight from Phuket, Thailand, to Delhi was hit by severe in-flight turbulence on Tuesday. Several passengers were injured in the incident , while some crew members also suffered minor injuries. However, the plane landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International ( IGI) Airport.
According to reports, the flight arrived in Delhi around 8:30 a.m. Upon landing, medical teams and emergency services were put on alert at the airport. The injured passengers were immediately transported to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj, and the Spinal Injuries Centre for treatment.
The company issued a statement
Air India flight AI2379, coming from Phuket, Thailand to Delhi, was hit by turbulence (strong gusts of wind) on Tuesday. Several passengers and some crew members suffered minor injuries in the incident. However, the plane landed safely at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. Air India issued a statement on the incident saying, “On August 4, flight AI2379, coming from Phuket to Delhi, faced turbulence for some time during the flight, due to which there was a sudden change in the altitude of the plane. The plane landed safely in Delhi and all passengers and crew members have come out safely.”
According to the company, passengers and crew members who sustained minor injuries were taken to the airport medical facility as a precautionary measure. Some of the injured were subsequently transferred to hospitals as needed. Air India said in a statement, “The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is our top priority. We are providing all possible assistance to those affected and are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities in their investigation of the incident.”
The passenger said, ’70-80% of the people were injured.’
After the incident, a passenger reported that the flight had been taking off for about an hour and a half, and most passengers were asleep. Suddenly, the plane was hit by intense turbulence. According to the passenger, “It was early in the morning. We were sleeping inside when suddenly the plane felt a strong jolt. It felt as if the plane had stopped suddenly and was pulled backward. This situation lasted for about 2 to 3 minutes.” He claimed that 15 to 20 passengers were injured. However, he also said that there were over 100 people on board, and he estimated that 70 to 80 percent of the passengers suffered some kind of injury or discomfort. The passenger stated that the injured are undergoing a medico-legal case (MLC) process, and they are considering taking action against Air India.
