Automobile Desk: To strengthen its hold on the premium hatchback segment in the Indian automobile market, Maruti Suzuki is rapidly working on the new avatar of its popular car Baleno. The country’s largest car manufacturer has started testing the new Baleno facelift on the roads. Recently, the prototype of this upcoming hatchback has been spied for the first time, after which discussions have intensified in the market regarding its design and specifications. If media reports are to be believed, this car, which is going to be launched in 2026, can be launched with a new exterior look, cabin updates and a high-tech hybrid engine.
Bold and modern changes will be seen in the exterior
The model spotted during road testing indicates that the overall size and body shape of the new Baleno facelift will remain similar to the current model, but its front and rear sections will see major cosmetic changes. The front of the car may feature a new and wider grille, sharper LED headlights with a redesigned design, and a new bumper with a spotty look. The side profile is unlikely to change much, although it may include alloy wheels with a new pattern. The entire car was covered during testing, due to which its subtle design elements could not be fully revealed.
Premium interiors and high-tech safety features
Customers can expect significant changes inside the car’s cabin as well. Maruti is expected to offer a new dashboard layout, premium upholstery, and a new color theme. For enhanced comfort and convenience, it’s expected to feature a large touchscreen infotainment display, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and automatic climate control. Safety-wise, the biggest highlight could be the inclusion of ADAS technology. Just as Level-2 ADAS has been spotted testing on the Renault facelift, the Baleno facelift could also include advanced safety features like lane-keep assist and automatic emergency braking.
Hybrid powertrain for excellent mileage
The company is taking a major step forward in terms of engine and performance. The new Baleno facelift will retain the existing 1.2-liter petrol engine, but it could also feature a new hybrid powertrain. This hybrid system will combine the petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. This technology will not only improve the car’s performance but will also significantly increase its fuel efficiency (mileage), which could prove to be a major plus point for Indian customers.
