Airlines hit by self-service check-in kiosk outage at Singapore Changi airport

Some self-service check-in kiosks at Singapore’s Changi Airport suffered a temporary outage on Monday morning, preventing passengers from checking in independently or printing boarding passes.

Changi Airport Group (CAG) said the disruption began at around 8:30 a.m. due to a global outage affecting Advance Passenger Processing systems, The Straits Times reported.

The issue forced some airlines to handle check-in procedures manually, CAG said, adding that other airports had also been affected.

The disruption lasted at least two-and-a-half hours, with check-in services returning to normal at around 11 a.m.

During the outage, Changi Airport ground staff provided assistance to airlines and passengers, CAG added.

Changi Airport handled 17.4 million passengers in the third quarter of 2026, up 0.4% year-on-year, as travel demand from Europe and Northeast Asia supported traffic growth.

Changi was voted the world’s best overall at the 2026 World Airport Awards by London-based aviation consultancy Skytrax. It has hold the title repeatedly over the past decade.

However, the Singapore airport has faced increased competition from global hubs, amid negative reviews from travelers.

Last year some tourists said immigration clearance at Changi was swift but luggage delivery at the airport was too slow. Many claimed they were left waiting for their bags for 45 minutes.

The airport operator then issued an apology and pledged to ensure a smooth experience for all travelers.
