Lucknow : On Monday, Congress State President Ajay Rai was taken into custody by the police. He was leaving the party office to go to Saharanpur. The police took them with them and reached the police line. Ajay Rai was going to take stock of the demolition action of the mosque in the Saharanpur Collectorate premises and meet the affected people. As soon as the news of Ajay Rai being detained spread, a crowd of party workers gathered outside the Congress office. The workers started shouting slogans protesting against the police action. There was a commotion at the spot for some time, after which the police took Ajay Rai in the vehicle and took him away from there.

Congress delegation was going to meet the victims
According to Congress, Ajay Rai wanted to go to Saharanpur with the party delegation. His program was to meet the members of the Mosque Committee and the people affected by the action. The administration has described the mosque built in the Saharanpur Collectorate complex as unauthorized construction on government land. According to officials, the demolition action was taken under the court order and as per the prescribed procedure.
Opposition attacks government after action
After the removal of the mosque, the matter has become a political issue. Opposition parties including Congress and Samajwadi Party have raised questions on the action of the administration. Congress MP Imran Masood has also cornered the government on this issue. Ajay Rai targeted the government over his detention. He alleged that under pressure from the BJP government, the police took action to stop Congress leaders and workers from going to Saharanpur.

He said that Congress will not back down from the police action and the fight to provide justice to the affected people will continue. At present Ajay Rai has been taken to the police line. After his detention, the activities of Congress workers have intensified in Lucknow.
