Sukhbir Singh Badal had reached Nanded from Punjab and went to Takht Sri Hazur Sahib with his family. It is being told that he had reached Nanded on a personal tour and security arrangements were in place for him.
How did the attack happen in the Gurudwara?
According to the report, Sukhbir Singh Badal was present in the Gurudwara premises at around 11 am. Meanwhile, a Nihang allegedly tried to attack him with a sharp weapon, which is said to be a Kirpan.
According to sources, the attacker tried to attack Badal, but his security personnel immediately intervened and tried to stop the attacker. During this time Sukhbir Badal got injured in his hand. In the video that surfaced after the incident, Sukhbir Singh Badal was seen with a saffron cloth tied on his right hand.
Hand injury, treatment in hospital
Sukhbir Singh Badal got injured in his right hand in the attack. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Nanded, where he is being treated. According to sources associated with Akali Dal, stitches have also been placed on Badal's hand. His injury has not been described as serious or life-threatening and his condition is said to be out of danger.
The attacker wanted to stab the saber in the stomach
It is said that the attacker was trying to hit Badal's stomach with a saber, but missed his aim. The saber hit Badal's hand, otherwise his condition could have become more serious.
Security personnel also injured
While trying to save Sukhbir Badal, Inspector Santosh Kendre, deployed for his security, was also injured. He also suffered minor injuries during the attack. The police took the attacker into custody immediately after the incident. He is being interrogated and the police is investigating the entire incident including the reason for the attack.
Wife Harsimrat Kaur Badal was also with him
At the time of the incident, Sukhbir Singh Badal was also present along with his wife and Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Had reached Takht Sri Hazur Sahib with Badal family for darshan. At present, the police is investigating what was the motive of the attacker and why did he target Sukhbir Badal.
Fadnavis ordered investigation into the incident
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an investigation into the attack on Badal. Fadnavis sought information about the incident from the Superintendent of Police of Nanded. He has ordered an investigation into the motive behind the attack.
There was a deadly attack in 2024 also
Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked earlier also in December 2024. A person had tried to shoot at him outside the Golden Temple in Amritsar. At that time, Sukhbir Badal was doing the duty of 'Sevadaar' at the entrance of the Golden Temple as a religious punishment pronounced by the Akal Takht. He narrowly escaped the attack and the attacker was caught on the spot.
