In fact, in an article published in an English newspaper, V. Ananth Nageswaran and his fellow writer Akash Pujari have stressed on giving the owners of old vehicles the option of buying E10. Along with this, he has said that there are about 7.5 to 8 crore two-wheelers in the country which are made for E10 petrol. Many of these vehicles were not designed to run on high ethanol blends i.e. E20. The article claims that E20 petrol is not just about mileage. This may cause compatibility issues with older engines as ethanol can affect parts such as rubber seals and fuel-system parts. Carbureted vehicles may also have trouble running with high ethanol blends (higher than E10).
