New Delhi, 29 September 2026: No zakat (duty) will be imposed in the US on certain drugs and their related components used in the treatment of rare diseases imported from India and 19 other countries.
The US Commerce Department has published the list of these countries in the 'Federal Register'. America is preparing to impose 100 percent tariff on the import of certain patented medicines and their related components from September 29.
On April 2, President Donald Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on imports of patented drugs, biologics, and related components into the United States. Its objective is to boost local pharmaceutical production in the country.
Apart from India, Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ecuador, El Salvador, European Union, Guatemala, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Malaysia, North Macedonia, South Korea, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Taiwan, Thailand, UK and Vietnam are also in the zero-tariff category.
