Addressing an election rally at Mayureshwar in Birbhum district, Shah alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was trying to intimidate the majority community in the state. He said that this election is to drive out the infiltrators from the state and the country. He said that the Election Commission has deployed enough central forces in the state to ensure free and fair elections. “Trinamool Congress goons should stay at home on election day or else they will be sent to jail after May 4,” Shah said.

West Bengal Assembly Schedule

The West Bengal Assembly elections are considered to be one of the biggest and most important elections in the country. These elections will not only decide the state government, but will also affect national politics. This election is being conducted in two phases. The first phase will be conducted on 23 April 2026 and the second phase on 29 April 2026. Then the counting of votes will take place on 4th May 2026 and the result will be announced. With a total of 294 seats going to polls in the state, any party or alliance will need at least 148 seats to form the government.

The main contest in the West Bengal Assembly is between the Trinamool Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress-Left alliance. Trinamool Congress led by Mamata Banerjee is currently in power in the state. In the 2021 elections, TMC won a landslide victory by winning more than 200 seats and is now trying to come back to power. Bharatiya Janata Party is also putting its full strength in this election. Suvendu Adhikari is considered a prominent figure in the party. BJP is in power at the center and is trying to form the government in West Bengal.
