Mallikarjun Kharge on Amit Shah: After being passed in the Lok Sabha, the anti-paper leak bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced the bill in the upper house. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge initiated the discussion on the bill. During the discussion, he strongly criticized the Modi government and demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah .
Who ordered the use of pellet guns? – Kharge
Targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mallikarjun Kharge asked who gave the order to lathicharge students, fire tear gas canisters and use pellet guns? Why were pellet guns used against students? Questioning the government, he said, “I want to ask the government, you may want to save Amit Shah, but you will not be able to do this for long.”
Mallikarjun Kharge raised the question of who were the plainclothes people who beat up the students during the protest. Who was the mastermind behind them? He clarified that if the Home Minister cannot answer these questions, he should resign and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should hold him accountable.
New bill will not achieve anything; only the numbers have changed – Kharge
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Congress MP Kharge said that due to the paper leak, countless innocent people have suffered; many have faced lathi-charge, parents are worried and women and children are facing difficulties. He noted that the ‘Public Examinations (Amendment) Bill, 2026’ tabled for discussion only changes the figures and provisions without addressing the core issue. It will not yield any concrete results.
He pointed out that even if the bill includes measures like higher fines, harsher punishments, special task forces and fast-track courts, it will not make much difference. The real impact will depend on how the exams are conducted and how they are prepared and administered without paper leaks.
Demand for strict law was made in 2024 itself – Kharge
Addressing the House, Mallikarjun Kharge said that such a strict law was demanded in 2024 itself, but the government did not pay attention to their demand at that time. You also mentioned in your speech that you did not agree with this at that time. Despite this, we kept urging you to implement this strict law, but you did not do so. Why did you not do then (in 2024) what you are doing today after two years?
