Amit Shah’s strong reply in Lok Sabha, said- Women’s reservation will be implemented from 2029, opposition to delimitation is against the rights of SC-ST.
digital desk- During the discussion in the Lok Sabha on three important bills related to Women’s Reservation Act and Delimitation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly responded to the allegations of the opposition. He said the purpose of these bills is to empower women and ensure equal representation in the country, and not to make changes for any political gain, as the opposition is alleging. Amit Shah said that 56 women MPs took part in this debate and no one opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill. He said that the opposition, especially the India Alliance, is not directly opposing the bill, but is raising questions about its implementation. However, he clarified that the government aims to conduct the 2029 Lok Sabha elections under women’s reservation.
Answers to questions raised on delimitation
On questions raised regarding delimitation, Shah said that opposition to it is actually opposition to the rights of Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). He said that there are 127 such Lok Sabha seats in the country, where there are more than 20 lakh voters, while in some seats this number is around 6 lakh. This violates the principle of “one person, one vote, one value”. He said that in the present situation, at some places there is one MP for 45 lakh voters, while at other places there is only one MP for 6 lakh voters, which is against the basic principle of democracy. Shah alleged that Congress had deprived the country of proper delimitation for 50 years, leading to inequality in representation.
Constitution does not allow reservation on the basis of religion- Amati Shah
On the issue of reservation, Amit Shah clarified that the Indian Constitution does not allow reservation on the basis of religion. Accusing the opposition of indulging in appeasement politics, he said that BJP’s policy is clear that reservation will neither be given on the basis of religion nor will anyone be allowed to do so. Clarifying the objective of the three bills, Shah said that the first goal is to empower women, so that the Nari Shakti Vandan Act is implemented on time and the 2029 elections can be conducted under it. Second, the basic principle of the Constitution “one person, one vote, one value” is to be fully implemented.
Modi government has decided to conduct the 2026 census on caste basis – Amit Shah
On the questions being raised regarding caste census, he said that the Narendra Modi government has decided to conduct the 2026 census on caste basis. Accusing the opposition of spreading confusion, he said that this bill has not been brought to postpone the caste census. Rejecting allegations of discrimination between North and South India, Shah said delimitation would not harm any state. He said that the states of South India have as much right to the Parliament as the states of North India, and such narratives are an attempt to divide the country.
