Amravati, 25 August 2026: Five members of the same family were found hanged in a rest house in the temple town of Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh. It is suspected that these five persons have committed suicide.

Police had said that two men and three women were found hanging in a room of 'Vadera Sataram', a rest house for devotees visiting Mallikarjuna Swamy temple.

Five family members committed suicide together

According to the police, two men were found hanging from the ceiling fan in the room, while three women were found hanging in the washroom. It is believed that all five members of the family had committed suicide three days ago.

This incident came to light today on Tuesday, when employees informed the police after a foul smell started coming from a closed room. When the police broke the doors, five people were found dead.

The family was staying in the rest house for a month.

Atmakur DSP Ramanjaneyulu visited the spot and said that the family was a resident of Battalapalli in Sri Satya Sai district.

It is believed that the family committed suicide due to financial constraints. A person named Sudhakar had come to Srisailam last month with his three sisters and a nephew. He was kept in that room for almost a month.

DSPA had said that the family had come in an auto-rickshaw on July 28. He had taken room number 11 and paid Rs 29 as its daily rent. When the staff asked him to vacate the room, he requested for more time citing ill health and his desire to be a devotee in the temple.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that this family was facing financial difficulties. Two of those women were divorced. Sudhakar was unmarried and took care of his sisters.

Police have sent the dead bodies to Srisailam government hospital for postmortem. A case has been registered in this regard and further investigation is going on.
