New Delhi: Anant Chaturdashi has great importance in Sanatan Dharma. This festival is celebrated every year on Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. On this day the eternal form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped. It is believed that the person who observes this fast with a true heart brings happiness, peace and prosperity in his life. The special thing about this fast is that both men and women can observe this fast.
When is Anant Chaturdashi 2026?
According to the Panchang, this year Chaturdashi Tithi will start at 11:18 pm on 24th September and will end at 11:06 pm on 25th September. Considering Udaya Tithi, the fast of Anant Chaturdashi will be observed on 25th September, Friday. Anant Sutra will be tied on this day.

On the day of Anant Chaturdashi, wake up in the morning in Brahma Muhurta, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, meditate on Lord Vishnu and resolve to fast. Clean the puja room thoroughly and spread a red or yellow cloth on a wooden platform. Install the Kalash on the post and place the idol of Lord Lakshmi-Narayan. After this, make octagons on the Kalash and offer flowers and then worship Lord Vishnu methodically with incense, lamp, roli, sandalwood, fruits and flowers. Lighting a ghee lamp during puja is considered very auspicious. After the puja, offer food to God and listen to the fast story of Anant Chaturdashi.
Importance of 14 knot Anant Sutra
Let us tell you, Anant Sutra has a special place in this worship. Kusha or silk thread is mixed with turmeric and kumkum and tied in 14 knots. This sutra is first offered to Lord Vishnu and then worshipped. After the puja, chant the mantra – 'Anant Sansar Mahasamudre Magnam Sambhyudhar Vasudev, Anantrupe Viniyojayaswa Hyanantsutraya Namo Namaste.' After this, women tie it on their left hand and men on their right hand. It is believed that 14 knots symbolize the 14 worlds. At last, feed the Brahmins and accept the Prasad. It is said that by observing this fast all the wishes are fulfilled.
