Kovai Kings captured their third Tamil Nadu Premier League title after defeating Madurai Panthers by 84 runs in the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, with C Andre Siddarth celebrating his 20th birthday in spectacular style with a match-winning 82.
Siddarth produced a superb 47-ball innings, anchoring the Kovai Kings’ batting effort and giving the side a commanding total.
His innings was the centerpiece of a memorable final for the young batter, who turned 20 on the day of the championship match. He was subsequently named Player of the Match.
The Kovai Kings then produced a disciplined bowling performance to dismantle the Madurai Panthers batting line-up.
The Panthers were bowled out for just 98, leaving Kovai Kings with a comfortable 84-run victory.
Siddarth’s aggressive yet controlled batting gave Kovai the platform they needed after opting to set a challenging target.
He found the boundary regularly but also rotated the strike effectively, ensuring the Kings maintained momentum throughout their innings.
Once the Panthers began their chase, Kovai’s bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals and never allowed the opposition to establish a meaningful partnership.
The final margin reflected Kovai’s dominance with both bat and ball.
The victory also marked the third TNPL title for the Kovai Kings, cementing their position among the tournament’s most successful franchises.
