Anti-Paper Leak Amendment Bill: The first week of the monsoon session of Parliament was marred by uproar. After which the proceedings of both the houses will start again today. During this time, ‘Public Examination Amendment Bill’ will be introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Modi government to stop paper leaks. The existing Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 provides for a prison sentence of 3 to 5 years in ordinary cases and 5 to 10 years in organized crime cases and a fine of not less than Rs 1 crore. To make it strict, the government is bringing a new amendment bill.

According to the information, to stop paper leaks, in the ‘Public Examination Amendment Bill’, it is proposed to 1- set up a special fast track court for hearing paper leak cases in every state and union territory, 2- conduct daily hearings in the courts and 3- complete the trial within three months of the filing of the charge sheet. Apart from this, there is a provision to complete the investigation in cases related to paper leak and use of unfair means in the examination within two months and to those found guilty, a minimum of 5 years and a maximum of 10 years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 50 lakh. At the same time, there is a provision for harsher punishment for gangs that leak papers or rig exams in an organized manner. In such cases, a minimum jail term of 7 years and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore can be imposed.
