New Delhi: Apple has finally launched its popular payment service Apple Pay in India. The company has started this service with Axis Bank. Currently, initially only select Visa and Mastercard credit cards of Axis Bank will work on Apple Pay. The company says that soon other banks and card companies will also be linked to it.
Payment will be done with one touch without removing the card
After the introduction of Apple Pay, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch users will now be able to make payments without removing the card. There will be no hassle of repeatedly entering the card number, PIN or OTP for payment at the store, app or website. The user will be able to approve the payment only through Face ID or Touch ID. Apple has said that its support for Mac will also be brought soon. This service is completely different from UPI. While UPI transfers money directly from the bank account, Apple Pay works on a card-based system.
Limited service will be available initially
However, since its launch, Apple has made Apple Pay not available to everyone. Currently only eligible credit cards of Axis Bank can be added to Apple Wallet and RuPay cards will not be supported at present. Cards of big banks like HDFC, ICICI and SBI are also not in this list.
The method of use is easy. Users have to add their card to the Wallet app. After that, payment will be done as soon as you take the iPhone or Apple Watch to the payment machine at any supported store. Apple Pay option will also be visible in online shopping and apps.
Will not work on every machine
However, Apple Pay will not work on every contactless machine. Merchant must have support for Apple Pay. That is, running normal Tap to Pay does not guarantee that Apple Pay will also work. Initially, it has been launched only on select brands and merchants in Food & Beverage, Travel, Fashion and Lifestyle categories.
UPI is already the largest payment system in India, so the role of Apple Pay will be limited to premium users for now. But with the increase in iPhone sales and manufacturing, Apple now wants to provide another facility to its users.
