Legendary musician and singer AR Rahman’s son and playback singer AR Ameen was involved in a minor road accident in Chennai on Monday, and hours after the news broke, he finally came out to clear up what actually happened.

The 23-year-old posted a statement on Instagram Stories clarifying that he was in the passenger seat at the time, contrary to some reports suggesting otherwise.
“Yesterday, on the way to the airport, I was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car when we got into a minor accident. By God’s grace, everyone involved is safe and okay,” he wrote, thanking family, friends and well-wishers who reached out.
He also added a personal touch to his note. “I also believe that my grandma’s, my dad’s, and GV Anna’s prayers and values continue to guide and protect me. I will always carry their teachings with me and strive to live by everything they have instilled in me,” he wrote.
Meanwhile, his sister Khatija also posted a statement explaining the sequence of events.
“Ameen was on his way to the airport, seated in the passenger seat, while his friend was driving. A driver in another vehicle ahead of them moved forward despite the signal being red, which resulted in a minor collision,” she wrote.
However, police told a different story. According to them, the accident occurred around 3.30 AM near Guindy when Ameen was driving toward the area with his friend. A hatchback operating as a cab entered the main lane from the left side, causing the collision.
Cases have been registered under the Motor Vehicle Act, section 337 for causing injury and section 279 for rash or negligent driving. Both vehicles were seized.
Ameen, his friend and the hatchback driver all suffered minor injuries and were let off after basic first aid.
