According to Parmeet, his mother remained in critical condition for a long time after being shot. She could not even go to school properly for almost two years. During this time, the family left Pakistan after partition and settled first in Ahmedabad and then in Mumbai. Parmeet told that at that time the family was going through a very difficult phase. His mother was in constant pain, but due to lack of technology even doctors were not able to help much.
