Archery World Cup: Dheeraj and Kirti lost in bronze medal play-off, recurve teams
The Indian men’s and women’s recurve teams have lost in the quarter-finals in the Archery World Cup Stage-4. Both the teams could not perform as per their higher ranking and were eliminated after losing to America. Dheeraj Bommadevra and Kirti Sharma have made it to the bronze medal play-offs of the recurve mixed team event.
Dheeraj, who won the gold medal with Kumkum Mohod in the Antalya World Cup last month, paired with Kirti for the first time and defeated Netherlands 6-2 and then Japan 5-3, but this second seeded pair had to face a 3-5 defeat against China in the semi-finals. Now they will face Italy in the bronze medal play-off.

Prithika and Sahil pair also lost
In the compound category, the mixed pair of Prithika Pradeep and Sahil Jadhav lost 153-153 (19-20) in the shoot-off against the Mexican pair of Miguel Becerra and Jimena Estrada. Experienced and four-time Olympian Deepika Kumari was eliminated in the second round, while Asian Games squad member Yashdeep Bhoge lost in the preliminary round itself. The remaining six archers in the men’s and women’s categories remain in their respective individual categories.
Medal confirmed in compound category
India has already assured itself of a medal in the compound category. This is because the women’s team has reached the finals. The second-seeded men’s recurve team of Dheeraj Bommadevra, Neeraj Chauhan and Yashdeep Bhoge had a poor performance against the seventh-seeded American team as the Indian team lost 0-6 (53-56, 55-59, 56-58) in straight sets. The American trio, led by Olympic medalist Brady Ellison, applied the pressure right from the start. India had faltered in the opening set with scores of seven and eight.
After this, the American team took a strong lead of 4-0 by scoring perfect 10 five times out of six arrows and then secured a place in the semi-finals with another brilliant performance. On the other hand, the women’s team of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum, despite presenting a tough challenge, had to face defeat against the American team by 2-6 (52-52, 54-55, 54-54, 51-56).
