‘Could not execute the strategy’… Captain Shreyas Iyer’s big statement after losing the T20 series to England
Bristol: After the defeat in the T20 series against England, Indian captain Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment over the team’s performance. He admitted that India could not effectively implement its strategy in the match and did not perform as expected in all departments.
In the third T20 match, Iyer played a brilliant inning of 80 not out, but India could only score 158 runs for seven wickets. In reply, England won the match by achieving the target in 13.5 overs and won the series with one match remaining.
‘My innings means nothing if the team does not win’
After the match, Iyer said that the team’s performance was disappointing and the score was not competitive. He told that he had asked the bowlers to bowl continuously on the same length, but England achieved the target very quickly.
Iyer expressed satisfaction with his individual innings, but clarified that if the team is unable to win, the importance of individual performances diminishes. He said that his aim is always to contribute to the team’s victory and he was disappointed by the defeat.
‘The team is going through a period of change’
The Indian captain said that the current team is in a phase of change and it is natural to make mistakes in such times. He expressed hope that the players will learn from their shortcomings and perform with better coordination in the coming matches.
England captain told the reason for victory
England captain Harry Brook attributed the big win to the team’s ability to adapt to conditions and better communication between the players and the coaching staff. He said that winning the series against a strong team like India is a big achievement for the team.
