Archery World Cup: Indian recurve archers Dheeraj Bommadevara Became the first Indian male archer to win a gold medal in a World Cup final. Industrialist Anand Mahindra congratulated him on his historic victory and said that perhaps India's golden age in recurve archery has begun. Top seed Dheeraj created history by defeating Japan's Nakanishi Junya in a thrilling shoot-off. The 25-year-old, who is ranked 10th in the world, put his disappointments behind him in the 2023 and 2024 seasons with a superb performance this time around.
Dheeraj Bommadewara defeated world number 20 Nakanishi 6-5 (28-28, 28-29, 29-28, 28-30, 28-27) in a thrilling title match. The score was tied at 5–5 after a five-set match, after which Dheeraj won the shoot-off 10–9. Dheeraj is Asian this month Sports Will also participate in the competition. With this victory, Dheeraj became the first Indian male recurve archer to win a gold medal in a World Cup final. He also ended a 16-year wait to win the prestigious Indian men's recurve archery title. Jayant Talukdar was the last Indian male recurve archer to win a bronze medal at Edinburgh in 2010.
Apart from Dheeraj, Dola Banerjee is the only Indian player to have won a gold medal in a World Cup final. She won the women's individual title in Dubai in 2007. Deepika Kumari holds the record for winning the most medals for India in World Cup finals. She has competed eight times and won five silver and one bronze medal.
