Chandigarh. Punjab Police has arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra from Sanaur constituency in Madhya Pradesh, who is surrounded by rape and other charges. Pathan Majra was absconding for several months. On September 1, 2025, a case was registered by a woman against Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra under rape, cheating and other charges at the Civil Lines police station in Patiala, Punjab.
The woman had alleged that from 2013-2014 to 2024 (specifically from February 12, 2014 to June 12, 2024), Pathanmajra had physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage and pretending to be a divorcee. They also got married in a Gurudwara in Ludhiana in 2021, but Pathan Majra was already married.
After this, on September 2, Pathanmajra was arrested in Karnal, Haryana, but he escaped from police custody under the cover of firing and stone pelting. During this time a policeman was injured. After this the matter reached the court.
In December 2025, Patiala Court declared him a fugitive. After this, news came that he had fled to Australia and also gave interviews from there. Then the court issued a lookout notice.
Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that he was caught late on Tuesday night in Shivpuri district near Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh. Along with the accused MLA, his three associates have also been arrested. The accused has been brought to Patiala.
